1. San Diego
A short hour and a half drive will get you to here from Mission Viejo, and if you’re only staying for a day you’ll want to leave early in the morning to fit everything in! Check out the Seaport Village and browse through the Victorian-style shops or visit Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in North America.
2. Big Bear Lake
It will only take you two hours to get to the beautiful Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. Around the lake, you can go horseback riding, kayak, fish, zipline, or go to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo! If you want an action-packed weekend, Big Bear Lake is calling your name.
3. Monterey
What can’t you do in Monterey? Drive 6 hours to see extensive marine life, with opportunities to observe them at various aquariums or on the Bay through a guided tour. In addition, you can visit the well-known Taste of Monterey winery with fantastic views of the water or walk the Pacific Grove Ocean Trail.
4. Joshua Tree National Park
Only two hours away you can experience two different desert ecosystems at this attributed National Park; Mojave and the Colorado. Plan to encounter a plethora of wildlife and see the famous Joshua Tree, resembling the tree from a Dr. Seuss book. We recommend camping to fully immerse yourself in the park!
5. Las Vegas
There’s a lot more to Vegas than just a wild nightlife and the best way to get there is a 4-hour road trip to soak in the desert plains. A classic tourist destination that has a lot to offer including the Hoover Dam, The Las Vegas Strip and a number of famous museums. The options are truly endless!
6. Palm Springs

7. Santa Ynez Valley
Do you love wine? If so, driving to the Solvang Winery is a must. In just three and a half hours you will arrive at a quaint town near a number of vineyards that resembles a European village. Indulge in wine, shopping, and even an Ostrich farm!
8. Mammoth Lakes
The five-hour road trip to this desired destination will prove to be worth it before you even get to Mammoth Lake. Spectacular views of crystal clear mountain lakes and large valleys and mountains keep people coming back for more. Adventure awaits you!
9. Santa Barbara
Romance and culture swarm the city of Santa Barbara making it a regular weekend getaway spot. Take Highway 1 and you’ll encounter beautiful coastline views and arrive at your destination in about two and a half hours. Lay low by visiting the Salt Caves or stay active by Kayaking through the caves of Channel Islands.
